The 500 Festival Princess Program, presented by Reis-Nichols Jewelers, celebrates Indiana’s most civic minded, academically driven young women. Applications have been reviewed and interviews are quickly approaching! The first round of interviews for the 2020 Princess Program will take place January 25. The interview process can seem daunting, however, it is a wonderful opportunity to gain new experiences and valuable skills. To help you feel as comfortable and confident as possible, here are some tips and advice to guide you into the weekend’s events.
Dress to impress
When it comes to interviews, often the first thing that comes to mind is, “What do I wear?” It is encouraged that you dress professionally, similar to job interview attire. While it is important to present yourself in a professional manner, you are still encouraged to show your personality! It is important to not only show confidence, but also to feel comfortable to do your very best! Instagram and Pinterest are great resources for visual examples and inspiration.
Do your homework
To feel confident and prepared, make sure you do your homework. Take the time to research the location of your interview. Prepare for travel time, parking, check-in, weather delays, etc. Review your resume and online application. But don’t stress! You know yourself better than anyone else, let that shine through. Participants are also encouraged to research the 500 Festival. Having a basic knowledge of the 500 Festival, our events and programs will be incredibly helpful. You might also consider how your values and beliefs align with the mission of the 500 Festival.
Who to expect
The 500 Festival Princess Program interview process provides the opportunity to meet people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. A group of 36 interviewers, including prominent and engaged members of the community, are carefully selected to ensure candidates the best possible experience. Other applicants, 500 Festival Staff, Board of Directors, Princess Alumnae and volunteers will assist in creating a smooth, successful day. Try your best to take a few moments and meet some of these individuals who are there to support and assist you in any way possible!
Strong body language
It is also important to display positive body language and nonverbal communication. Some helpful tips are to greet with a firm handshake, keep strong eye contact and maintain good posture. Don’t forget to relax and take a deep breath!
Reflect
Take time to reflect on your thoughts, values and beliefs. Think of specific collegiate and volunteer experiences. Because of limited amount of time with interviewers, talk about what you are most passionate and proud of. Reflect on specific activities you are involved in, your career aspirations, how you manage your time, why you would like to be a part of the 500 Festival Princess Program, etc. Be honest, authentic and candid. Remember, it’s just a conversation!
Regardless of the outcome after the first round of 500 Festival Princess Program Interviews, all applicants are aspirational, driven young women. You will each acquire valuable, new skills and a unique experience to help you succeed in future endeavors.
