The Magic of May
The Magic of May
There’s something about the feeling of May in Indianapolis. The air buzzes. The city comes alive. The celebrations have really begun. We all don’t just experience it; we live and breathe it.
From the moment the first runners toed the line at the sold-out Indy Mini, it was clear: this May was going to be unforgettable. Over 23,000 people, runners, walkers, and wheelers, gave it everything they had. We saw finish-line tears, high-fives between strangers, and many moments when participants realized they did it. It was about more than just getting the miles in; it was about the meaning behind being out there.
Kids’ Day brought its own unique energy when Monument Circle transformed into a place of learning and laughter. With over 20,000 families filling the streets, the city’s youngest residents explored, played, and dreamed big. Tiny Rookie Runners sprinted with determination in their eyes, and parents cheered from the sidelines. The day was filled with joy and memories that will be shared for years to come.
Beyond the excitement, May also offered moments to listen and learn, and a moment to reflect.
One of those moments came during Breakfast at the Brickyard, where stories of leadership and inspiration filled the morning. This year’s event welcomed Indiana’s mayors as they proudly represented their cities and featured a powerful panel of women in motorsports. They shared their journeys, breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field, and reminded us all what resilience, passion, and progress really look like.
During the Memorial Service at the Indiana War Memorial, the city paused. With flags waving gently in the breeze and hearts full of gratitude, we remembered those who gave everything. This moment of silence was one of the most powerful of all.
And then – the AES 500 Festival Parade. It was everything we hoped for and more. With 14 marching bands, 33 drivers, and thousands of fans lining the streets, it was a celebration of tradition and community spirit. Whether you were front row downtown or watching from your couch, you could feel it: unity, pride, and the thrill of being part of something bigger.
Behind the scenes, our 500 Festival Princesses were leading community efforts and showing up with heart spending over 1,500 hours devoted to the community. They reminded us all of what leadership and service look like in action.
Looking back, it’s hard to put into words what the month of May meant. But there’s one word that comes to mind every time we reflect. We’re thankful. We’re full of gratitude, pride, and inspiration, thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, fans, families, and you – for showing up and making May magical.
