The 500 Festival 2026 season is shaping up to be one for the history books, and it all begins with a calendar of events that has brought generations together in Indianapolis. 

As we race toward the Month of May, we’re taking time to reflect on how we got here. Our 2026 theme, Racing Through History, honors the generations who have helped shape the 500 Festival while inviting those new to the community to be part of what comes next. 

This year marks two incredible milestones: the 50th running of the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 70th 500 Festival Parade. For decades, these two events have united runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators in the heart of the city.  

The 500 Festival’s history is made up of stories like yours — whether it’s a 4th-grade school trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a parade-day tradition, a volunteer moment, or a behind-the-scenes snapshot. These traditions have been built by people who continue to show up, year after year, to celebrate something bigger than themselves.
