When will I know my volunteer assignment?
After you register, you will receive an email confirmation with your assignment directly from the registration site. Please be sure to check your spam or junk mail folders.
When is the last day I can sign up to volunteer?
The volunteer registration deadline is Wednesday, April 11, but we encourage early registration since many of the assignments fill up quickly.
How will we know what to do once we are assigned a station?
There will be a volunteer training session on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. The 500 Festival staff and OneAmerica team captains will be on hand to explain duties and answer any questions. Watch for more information about orientation closer to the date.
What should I wear for my volunteer shift?
The 500 Festival has requested that all volunteers wear khaki or black pants, capris or shorts along with their volunteer shirt. No jeans, please.
Where do I park, and will it be free?
There will be designated areas for volunteer parking free of charge. Additional details will be provided at the volunteer orientation on April 24.
Can I bring a cooler if I want to bring drinks or food?
Coolers can be brought to any location except the food distribution area and Expo.
Are food and beverages provided?
Yes, refreshments will be provided at the Indiana Convention Center during the Expo and in Military Park on race day.
If I work with food distribution, do I have to wear a hat or net?
No, because there are no open food items. Gloves will be provided.
What if my shift is outside and it’s raining?
Please plan to attend your volunteer shift, rain or shine. The race will occur regardless of weather conditions, so be prepared with appropriate attire.
Is there a hotline for us to call if for some reason the race is cancelled due to severe storms?
The race will not be cancelled due to severe storms. However, it may be delayed. Any cancellations or delays of the race will be communicated via email to all volunteers and broadcast on local news outlets.
If I can’t work my shift at the last minute, do I find a replacement or just notify someone?
Please contact your team captain. Team captain names and phone numbers will be provided during orientation on April 24.
How will volunteers be chosen if more people volunteer for a particular station than the number of people needed?
Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Are there physical requirements to volunteering?
You will most likely be on your feet for at least part of any volunteer position—that is why it is so important that you wear comfortable shoes! A few positions require heavy lifting and will be noted when you sign up. If you are unable to perform heavy lifting, please sign up for a different position.
Who do I contact for questions the day of the Mini?
Please contact your volunteer team captain. Team captain names and phone numbers will be provided at orientation on April 24.
Will this be counted as company time if my shift falls during the work week?
Approved Mini-Marathon volunteer activities that occur during your normal work schedule will be treated as work time and compensated accordingly, as long as you sign up through the OneAmerica volunteer website: https://2018oneamerica.my-trs.com/. All volunteer activities being performed outside of your normal work schedule are not compensable.
Remember, if you want to volunteer for an activity that falls within your work schedule, please obtain your supervisor’s approval.
If my shift falls during work time, can I wear my volunteer attire to work?
Khaki or black pants and sneakers may be worn on your volunteer shift day. Shorts are discouraged. If you would like to wear khaki or black shorts for your shift, please plan to bring a change of clothes, as shorts are not allowed at work.
Can my family volunteer with me?
Yes! We encourage family members and friends of OneAmerica employees to volunteer. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old and need to complete the online registration form located here.
Can my family and friends volunteer for the same station or opportunity?
Yes. However, each volunteer needs to sign up individually, so you will need to register them as volunteers with their own login and password.
Who do I contact for general questions?
OneAmerica employees may email Corporate Communications with questions.
