Official 2020 participant gear connects rich history, exhilarating future, iconic racing elements as part of America’s Best Half Marathon
INDIANAPOLIS (December 4, 2019) The 500 Festival, a nonprofit organization providing life-enriching events and programs that celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®, today revealed the designs of the participant shirt and finisher medal for the 2020 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Featuring a combination of iconic symbols intertwined with racing’s modern advancements, the shirt and medal for the 2020 Indy Mini half marathon pay tribute to the exciting new chapter for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Indy 500 and the city of Indianapolis. Set for Saturday, May 2, the 2020 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon will mark the race’s 44th running. Registration for America’s Best Half Marathon is available now at IndyMini.com/register.
The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon’s course includes a lap around the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the largest single-day sporting event, the Indy 500. Just last month, history was made when it was announced that Roger Penske and the Penske Corporation had acquired IMS from the Hulman-George family, who had owned the iconic venue more than 70 years. Guided by the Hulman-George family’s leadership and dedication, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has become the epicenter for auto racing while maintaining a commitment to the community and the State of Indiana. As the Hulman-George family passes the torch to Roger Penske and the Penske Corporation, the 2020 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon shirt and medal designs bridge the history and legacy of IMS with the innovation and excitement of the future.
“Each year, the 500 Festival strives to provide OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon participants a unique shirt and medal that recognizes their accomplishment and celebrates the legacy of the Indianapolis 500,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “We’re excited that the 2020 participant shirt and finisher medal complement each other by incorporating both historic and modern racing elements. An added tribute to the Hulman-George legacy truly makes this medal one you won’t want to miss out on earning!”
2020 Participant Shirt
The front of the 2020 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon participant shirt features an outline of the State of Indiana, a tribute to the home of America’s Best Half Marathon as well as the one million Hoosiers that have participated in the race’s history. The design also features a racing helmet from the year the Hulman-George family purchased IMS as well as the iconic phrase that Indy 500 fans wait to hear every year: “Ladies & Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!” The shirt includes a unique surprise for participants – a hidden message that they’ll have to search for! The back of the shirt has a more modern, bold feel to highlight the accomplishment of completing the 13.1 miles of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.
The 2020 participant shirt is long-sleeved, features a gender specific cut, and is made of a technical material to wick away moisture and maximize comfort. Participants can make sure they have the correct fit by checking our size chart.
2020 Finisher Medal
Your hard work is recognized when you cross the finish line and receive your 2020 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon finisher medal! The medal is double-sided in an antique silver finish. The front features a cut out of an IndyCar crossing the Yard of Bricks at IMS – a unique experience for all Indy Mini participants. The modern IndyCar featured on the front of the medal complements the historic racing helmet featured on the front of the shirt, to represent the bridge between old and new traditions at the track. Above the car is the race’s full name, OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon as well as its nickname, Indy Mini, in navy and green enamel. The back of the medal includes an additional commemorative feature, a thank you message to the Hulman-George family.
Finishing a half marathon is a massive accomplishment and the 2020 Indy Mini finisher medal will make a big statement. It measures 3.5” x 3.5” and is one of the heaviest medals in race history. The finisher medal hangs on a commemorative checkered flag ribbon, a hallmark of the race.
