Racing Legend Mario Andretti Announced as Featured Guest for 500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard, presented by Midwestern Engineers, Inc.

INDIANAPOLIS (March 28, 2024) The 500 Festival today announces that Mario Andretti, 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner and four-time INDYCAR SERIES champion, will appear as the featured guest at the 2024 500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard, presented by Midwestern Engineers, Inc. This signature event will take place on Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Andretti, an iconic figure in motorsports, will be honored as featured guest during an exclusive interview with Katie Kiel, a former 500 Festival Princess and active personality in the motorsport community.

Experience Breakfast at the Brickyard

Breakfast at the Brickyard is a classic tradition around the 500 Festival and IMS. This celebration gathers Indiana’s mayors, race fans, business leaders, and the 500 Festival Princesses to enjoy a delicious Hoosier breakfast and hear from Mario Andretti, IMS, and 500 Festival executives. Attendees will have the chance to drive their car around the historic IMS oval track (weather permitting) and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the garages. Guests will then enjoy the afternoon at the qualifying session for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, presented by Gainbridge.

Celebrating a Racing Icon

Mario Andretti’s legendary career is marked with numerous accolades. He’s one of motorsports’ greatest ambassadors and one of the most respected voices in racing.

Andretti has won at virtually every level of racing since immigrating to the United States from Italy at age 15. His racing achievements have become legendary, as he’s the only driver to ever win all three titles of the Indianapolis 500, the Daytona 500, and the Formula 1 World Championship. With a career that has taken him across six continents and five decades, Andretti has taken home the checkered flag 111 times.

Off the track, Mario is admired for his great warmth, dignity, and class. His drive and competitiveness are a few qualities that made him a champion. Andretti’s fans love him – and Indiana loves him.

“I love Indiana, especially in the month of May,” said Mario. “I feel spoiled that I got to race 29 times at the Speedway, and that the fans for some reason treated me and the other drivers like kings. I just can’t thank them enough. To be treated so well by the people, even after retiring from the sport, is something I can’t explain. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Breakfast.”

“Mario Andretti is one of the most respected and celebrated racing icons in the motorsports world,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “We are honored to have him participate in our annual Breakfast at the Brickyard tradition at IMS and look forward to hearing about his experiences, insights and continued involvement in the motorsports industry.”
