The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has been named Best Half Marathon in the 2023 edition of the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.  

“The readers of America’s most widely circulated newspaper have spoken and we’re happy to agree - there’s nothing quite like the tradition, emotion, and excitement of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon,” said Glenn Amos, Vice President of Operations of 500 Festival, and race director of the Mini-Marathon. “This award is truly a testament to the dedication of our staff, participants, volunteers, partners, and the Indianapolis community, who are all an integral part to making the Mini-Marathon a beloved and memorable experience each year.” 

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has become an iconic tradition, led by Hoosiers and embraced by the global running community. Known as The Greatest Spectacle in Running, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon annually attracts participants from all 50 states and 15+ countries around the world. It has become a pinnacle event for family and friends to attend year after year. 

The Mini-Marathon starts and finishes in downtown Indianapolis and includes a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500. As participants reach the famed Yard of Bricks, many will stop to kneel and kiss the brick, an Indianapolis 500 winner’s tradition. The flat and fast course is uniquely enhanced with 15-course aid stations, over 50 entertainment acts, and thousands of community volunteers, all cheering participants on to the finish line. 

The half-marathon is the fastest-growing race distance in the United States, with some two million runners now participating annually. Nominees for all categories were chosen by a panel of relevant experts which include a combination of editors from USA TODAY, editors from 10Best.com, relevant expert contributors, and sources for both these media and other Gannett properties. Voting was open to the public for four weeks, and the public had the right to vote online for one nominee per category, per day.

The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon is the 500 Festival’s largest fundraiser. Race registrations help support the 500 Festival’s free youth programs and events. The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon traditionally takes place the first weekend in May, welcoming the most thrilling month in Indianapolis as celebrations amp up for the Indianapolis 500.
