INDIANAPOLIS (September 6, 2011) – The 500 Festival announced today that Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) has renewed a multi-year agreement as title sponsor for the 500 Festival Parade. IPL has been a committed supporter of the 500 Festival Parade since it first began in 1957. In addition to serving as title sponsor since 2005, IPL has sponsored a float in each year of the Parade’s 54-year history.

“IPL’s devotion to the 500 Festival Parade is legendary,” said Kirk Hendrix, President and CEO, 500 Festival. “IPL is a tremendous partner, providing support in every way imaginable. Their generous and continual partnership has had a dramatic impact on our ability to produce one of America’s premier events, the IPL 500 Festival Parade. IPL and the 500 Festival share a commitment, that of enhancing the quality of life for Indiana residents and their guests. The parade brings families together in celebration and serves as a tremendous promotional vehicle for the Indianapolis 500® and the City of Indianapolis.”

The IPL 500 Festival Parade has grown to be one of the nation’s signature events. It consistently ranks among the top three parades in the nation including the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  In 2009, the event received the Gold Pinnacle Award for Best Event from the International Festival Events Association (IFEA). Through its Pinnacle Awards, IFEA recognizes outstanding examples of quality and creativity in the promotional programs and materials produced by its 2,400 members.

“The IPL 500 Festival Parade is one of the most significant events in Indianapolis and celebrates the spirit of this community,” said IPL’s President and CEO Ken Zagzebski. “We are proud to work with the 500 Festival to deliver this world-class event enjoyed by more than 300,000 Hoosiers and visitors to our city who annually line the parade route to see the Indy drivers and the pageantry of this show.”

In addition to serving as title sponsor, IPL provides officers to serve on the 500 Festival Board of Directors and the various Parade event committees.  The company also provides volunteers and vehicles for event support to the 500 Festival.

The 2012 IPL 500 Festival Parade is Saturday, May 26 at noon and more than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the two-mile parade route. For more information on the IPL 500 Festival Parade visit www.500festival.com

The 500 Festival, a not-for-profit volunteer organization, was created in 1957 to organize civic events celebrating the greatest race in the world. Over the past 55 years, the 500 Festival has grown to become one of the largest festivals in the nation.

Last year, more than 500,000 Hoosiers and visitors participated in nearly 50 events and programs throughout the month of May. Whether they were athletes running the Mini, fourth grade students participating in the Education Program, families enjoying the state’s largest festival for kids or spectators being dazzled by one of the nation’s premier parades, they were there, celebrating the legacy.
