Kaufman will perform “Back Home Again in Indiana” and the National Anthem at America’s Best Half Marathon
INDIANAPOLIS (April 25, 2019)– The 500 Festival, a nonprofit organization providing life-enriching events and programs that celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®, today announces that Josh Kaufman will perform with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir (ICC) before the start of the 2019 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K. The races will take place on Saturday, May 4 in downtown Indianapolis and registration is currently open.
Kaufman and ICC will come together to sing “Back Home Again in Indiana” before the start of the Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K. “Back Home Again in Indiana” is a deeply-rooted Indianapolis 500 tradition, which goes hand-in-hand with the Greatest Spectacle in Running on the first Saturday of May. He will then perform the “Star Spangled Banner” before participants start the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.
“We’re excited for Josh and the ICC to perform for thousands of spectators and participants as they prepare for their running events,” said 500 Festival president and CEO Bob Bryant. “’Back Home Again’ in Indiana is one of the great traditions of May as we celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indy 500, and having these great Indianapolis-based performers will make it even more special to hear.”
The winner of the sixth season of “The Voice”, Indianapolis-based singer/songwriter, Josh Kaufman, burst onto the national stage. Kaufman’s kept busy since his win, sitting in with The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, headlining the Indy Jazz Fest, and making his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning Pippin (for which he played the lead and title role). Kaufman is no stranger to the fanfare of the Month of May. He was the Grand Marshal of the 2014 IPL 500 Festival Parade and performed Back Home Again in Indiana at the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 with ICC.
“I’ve had the honor to be part of many of the 500 Festival’s traditions of May throughout the years and I’m excited to be back this year,” said Kaufman.
