INDIANAPOLIS (February 4, 2020) – The 500 Festival, a nonprofit organization providing life-enriching events and programs that celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®, today announced the theme for the 2020 IPL 500 Festival Parade: Start Your Engines!
“The iconic phrase, ‘Start Your Engines,’ is not only recognized by race fans around the world, but signals the beginning of a new journey,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “Race weekend has constantly been enhanced with roots based in tradition. This year’s IPL 500 Festival Parade is sure to pay tribute and thank the Hulman-George family for their contributions to the racing world, and celebrate the exciting road ahead with Roger Penske and Penske Corporation.”
2020 Parade Theme – Start Your Engines!: Change is happening in Indianapolis. 2020 not only marks the start of a new decade, but also a transition between old and new racing traditions as we thank the Hulman-George family and usher in the new era of the Indy 500 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Roger Penske at the helm.
For more than 60 years, the IPL 500 Festival Parade has been a race weekend tradition for fans across the globe. Just like the Indianapolis 500 and the city itself, the IPL 500 Festival Parade has evolved and modified, led by innovation and limitless imagination.
We’re only at the start line of the untapped potential that lies ahead. So join along and celebrate the beginning of something big, leading with the most famous words during the month of May: “Start Your Engines!”

Each year, more than half a million people participate in the 500 Festival’s programs and events which showcase the city on a world stage. The city is transformed into the meeting place for race fans, awe-inspiring athletes, parade fanatics, and civic leaders, attending 500 Festival events such as the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, the IPL 500 Festival Parade, Salesforce & JP Morgan Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day, and many more.
The 2020 IPL 500 Festival Parade will take place on Saturday, May 23, with Parade festivities starting at 11:45 a.m. ET. The 64th IPL 500 Festival Parade will be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network and broadcast to the Indianapolis market on WTHR, Channel 13. Tickets for the IPL 500 Festival Parade will be available March 4, 2020.
