500 Festival Announces Theme for 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade: “Your Tradition is Waiting in Our Own Brickyard”

INDIANAPOLIS (January 23, 2019) The 500 Festival, a nonprofit organization providing life-enriching events and programs that celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®, today announced the theme for the 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade; Your Tradition is Waiting in our own Brickyard.

“The 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade theme, Your Tradition is Waiting in our own Brickyard, perfectly encompasses the spirit of May in the City of Indianapolis,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “Indy 500 traditions for many begin with the IPL 500 Festival Parade, which IPL has been a part of since the first parade in 1957. I’m confident that together, we can honor traditions of old and introduce new ones shared by race fans from every corner of the globe.”

2019 Parade Theme – Your Tradition is Waiting in our own Brickyard: In Indianapolis, the month of May means family, friends, and the 500. For more than 60 years, the IPL 500 Festival Parade has led the charge with our iconic community celebration. Each year builds on the foundation of the last, blending together old and new as the world gathers in the Circle City. Before the green flag drops at the starting line at the brickyard, the 33 drivers parade down the bricks of Monument Circle, admired by the youngest and more experienced race fans. There’s no way to describe the feeling of May until you have experienced it for yourself. But once you have, you’ll treasure the lifelong memories of the high-octane adventures the month brings.

There are a million ways to May, but only one IPL 500 Festival Parade. We invite you to join us as we celebrate the countless traditions of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and create a few new ones along the way. New Traditions. Historic Brickyard. This is May.

“We are incredibly excited about the theme for the 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade,” said Tanya Sovinski, IPL’s director of community relations and 500 Festival board member. “IPL has been proudly serving Indianapolis residents and its guests since 1926. Our rich heritage of powering Indianapolis is filled with traditions of our own that we’re excited to share through this year’s theme. This year’s theme fully represents how May isn’t just another month in this city, but a complete experience best shared with friends and families.”

Each year, more than half a million people participate in the 500 Festival’s programs and events which showcase the city on a world stage. The city is transformed into the meeting place for race fans, awe-inspiring athletes, parade fanatics, and civic leaders, attending 500 Festival events such as the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, the IPL 500 Festival Parade, Salesforce & JP Morgan Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day, and many more.

The 2019 IPL 500 Festival Parade will take place on Saturday, May 25, with Parade festivities starting at 11:45 a.m. ET. The 63rd IPL 500 Festival Parade will be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network and broadcast to the Indianapolis market on WTHR, Channel 13. Tickets for the IPL 500 Festival Parade will be available March 6, 2019.
