500 Festival Announces 2026 Annual Theme and Parade Feature, “Racing Through History”
INDIANAPOLIS (January 6, 2026) – The 500 Festival announces “Racing Through History” as their 2026 annual theme, which will be the focus for the 500 Festival Parade. “Racing Through History” celebrates the legacy, milestones, and meaningful moments that have shaped the 500 Festival into one of Indiana’s most cherished traditions. In 2026, the 500 Festival proudly honors two landmark anniversaries, the 50th running of the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 70th 500 Festival Parade, while spotlighting the rich history woven throughout all of its programs and events.
From the first steps taken at the Mini-Marathon to the iconic floats that roll through downtown each May, the 500 Festival’s story is built on decades of community, collaboration, and shared experience. The theme also celebrates the lasting impact of beloved programs like the Princess Program, Education Program, and KidsFit Program, which have inspired generations through leadership, learning, and healthy living.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the theme Racing Through History for this year’s 500 Festival event season,” said Lindsay Labas, senior vice president of marketing and communications at the 500 Festival. “This theme honors the legacy behind our milestone events and the programs and traditions that have brought generations of our community together. As we celebrate how far we’ve come and those who paved the way, we invite the community to be part of this historic year by participating in our events, creating new memories, and continuing the story of the 500 Festival together.”
