4,000 5K participants will lead off OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

INDIANAPOLIS (April 19, 2016) – The 500 Festival, a nonprofit organization providing life-enriching events and programs celebrating the legacy of the Indianapolis 500, announced today that the 2016 Finish Line 500 Festival 5K has sold out with 4,000 entries. 2016 marks the 40th running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 17th running of the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K.

“Our newly introduced challenges, combined with the excitement surrounding this year’s medals and the thrilling experience of our start and finish lines have driven demand for this year’s Finish Line 500 Festival 5K,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO, 500 Festival. “It’s not too late to experience the celebration during this epic month of May. We’ve got a massive celebration planned for the 40th OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and space is still available – there’s never been a better year to participate! The course is flat and fast and our 18 minute / mile time limit makes the Indy Mini incredibly popular with runners and walkers alike. In fact, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon was recently named one of the top races for walkers. Whether you’re running, walking or both, there is plenty of time to prepare for this year’s race!”

Finish Line 500 Festival 5K participants will hit the streets of Downtown Indianapolis at 7:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday, May 7, prior to the start of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon at 7:30 am EDT. Participants in the 5K will run or walk 3.1 miles and will utilize the same start line and finish line as the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.

Spaces are still available for the 2016 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Now through May 3, the registration fee is $85. The Indy Mini is the 500 Festival’s largest fundraiser. Race registrations help support the 500 Festival’s free youth programs and events. By getting nearly 40,000 people moving, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and Finish Line 500 Festival 5K have become two of the state’s largest health initiatives, helping Hoosiers get focused on their health and well-being. The course for the Mini-Marathon is flat and fast and appeals to runners and walkers alike. It begins near the intersection of Washington and West Streets in downtown Indianapolis, heads west toward the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and includes a lap around the famed 2.5 mile track before heading back downtown to the finish line at Military Park.
