INDIANAPOLIS (March 22, 2025) – The 500 Festival is excited to announce that former NBA star and long-time fan of the 500 Festival, Scot Pollard has been named Grand Marshal of the 2025 AES 500 Festival Parade. 

Known for his larger-than-life personality, championship career, and deep ties to Indiana, Pollard will bring his signature energy and Hoosier pride to this race-weekend celebration. Pollard is a former Indiana Pacer, an NBA Champion, 3-time NBA Finalist, and key contributor to multiple playoff runs. His resilience and leadership on and off the court has cemented his legacy in the world of basketball.  

Since retiring from professional basketball, Pollard has turned his attention to a new mission — raising awareness about organ donation. A heart transplant recipient himself, his life took a dramatic turn when he underwent a vital heart procedure at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in February 2024. Pollard’s perspective on the procedure evolved when he realized how crucial it was for him to be there for his family, including his four children. Now, as a passionate advocate for organ donation, Pollard travels nationwide, sharing his personal story of second chances.  

Pollard’s genetic cardiomyopathy went undiagnosed until 2021, when an illness triggered his underlying condition, leading to heart failure. After three years of unsuccessful ablations, various medications, and a pacemaker defibrillator, his cardiologist recommended discussing a heart transplant. His decision to undergo a heart transplant marked a turning point, not only in his health but also in his mission to raise awareness about the invaluable impact of organ donation.
