5 months until the magic of May

It's officially five months until May 2018 and there's plenty to get excited for this time around. Here's a look at five reasons to start getting excited for the Month of May.

5. musical guest

No announcement has been made, but the 500 Festival is working to lock in the featured musical talent for the IPL 500 Festival Parade and the KeyBank 500 Festival Snakepit Ball. Stay tuned to find out who is coming to Indy next May!

4. Princesses

Applications for the 500 Festival Princess Program close on January 7, 2018. There's still time to apply! Come February, a new group of 33 college-aged leaders will team up with the 500 Festival as ambassadors for the month of May. They'll be hands-on at all 500 Festival events and active in the community through various outreaches all spring.

3. Indy Mini Medals

The medal design for the 2018 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon was revealed last week! This year's design features an iconic Indianapolis 500 tradition; the drinking of the milk in Victory Circle. Every Mini-Marathon participant will take home this one-of-a-kind piece of history. Say it with us - "Winners Drink Milk!"

2. Parade Theme

Another announcement that's yet to be made, the theme for this year's IPL 500 Festival Parade is one to get excited about! Combining two themes synonymous with Indianapolis, we can't wait to share this year's idea and start planning the Parade celebrations.

 

1. Meb returns to the mini

The biggest announcement of the year, Meb Keflezighi announced his return to the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in 2018. The greatest distance runner in American history made his decision to return to the Mini for the third-straight year immediately after his retirement from marathons in New York on November 6.
